David Shaul is a Cheyenne musician know for his expertise on the harp. On Dec 13th he will be playing a different kind of harp, the Japanese koto, from 6-8pm during the Japanese Design show at Artful Hand Studio and Gallery located on the corner of East 1st Ave and House.
The koto (箏) is a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. Koto are about 180 centimetres (71 in) length, and made from Pawlonia wood. They have 13 strings that are strung over 13 movable bridges along the width of the instrument. Players can adjust the string pitches by moving these bridges before playing, and use three finger picks (on thumb, index finger, and middle finger) to pluck the strings

Christi Beckmann is a studio quilter using a variety of techniques in her pieces. She works at the, “…intersection of fiber, paints, stitching and abstraction”. The show opens at Artful Hand Studio and Gallery at 302 East 1st Ave during Art Design & Dine on Oct 11th from 5-8. She will be demonstrating some of her techniques like oil stick rubbings and digital transfers from 6-8 on Friday the 12th. The show continues on Saturday Oct 13th from 10-3. You can see more of her work at http://www.freereinarts.com/“Most of my work is watercolor-many sizes and many shapes. The transparency allows the building of layered color and texture. I use geometric patterns to create movement and mystery. Plowed earth, crops in various stages of growth, layered mountains, forests, trees, images around Wyoming…..these are my inspiration. The painting surfaces I use are paper, prepared panels and canvas. I recently started a new process using watercolor…batik on rice paper. I’m crazy about the texture and surprises that await me at the final unveiling. How fun!! Born and raised in Wyoming, I received a BA from the University of Wyoming. Participating in art brings me great joy: painting plein air, talking to new people, receiving grand ideas and insight”. Marvie Tipsword
